Anáhuac
Alisal St. Highway 101 Underpass, Salinas, CA
2023
La Neta’s biggest mural project yet, Anáhuac is a multi-wall mural that elaborates on themes of creation, cultivation, community, humanity, ritual, ancestral knowledge, youth education, and solidarity specific to the local demographic of the Alisal community. The design of the new murals emerged as a continuation of the stories told in the pre-existing murals at the site location made by local artists Arturo Bolaños (2000) and Jesús Leon (2003). The month long execution included the refurbishing of said murals with added anti-graffiti coating. The mural required use of ladders, a scissor lift and a boom lift. The project was funded and overseen by CALTRANS as part of Clean California’s Beautification Project.
